Addressing Period Poverty and Promoting Sustainability
Introduction to Period Poverty
Tackling Period Poverty in the UK and Africa
FENET International in partnership with REMGA addresses women’s health & hygiene poverty and the critical need for period/menstrual products by providing reusable products for women and girls living in low-income families and are experiencing period poverty here in the UK and Africa.
Period poverty is having a detrimental effect on millions of women and girls from low-income families in the UK and around the world, forcing them to make impossible decisions daily.

The Menstrual Products We Provide
Reusable Products for Sustainable Period Solutions
We provide a range of eco-friendly, reusable menstrual products to women and girls, promoting both environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness. These products offer an affordable, long-term solution to period poverty, enabling users to manage their periods with dignity and comfort.

Menstrual/Period Cup
Our research reveals that many girls, especially those between the ages of 14-15, miss school weekly due to a lack of sanitary products. This greatly affects their academic performance and future opportunities. The menstrual cup is a revolutionary product that provides 8-12 hours of leak-free protection, and it’s ideal for young girls, students, and even women with an IUD.

Menstrual Disc - regular
Most women experiencing period poverty face the impossible choice to heat, eat or keep clean daily. Every woman and girl deserve to wake up and feel clean. But for the millions of women and girls in the UK living in period poverty, this human right can feel more like an unattainable luxury.

Organic Cotton Velour Reusable Period Pad
These pads are comfortable, eco-friendly, and designed for multiple uses. They reduce the cost burden associated with menstrual products while offering great comfort. Our project introduces these pads as a key solution for low-income families facing period poverty.
Impact of Period Poverty
The Harsh Reality of Period Poverty
Period poverty is not just about menstruation—it impacts every aspect of a woman’s life. For women living in poverty, the choice between buying menstrual products and other essentials, like food or heating, is an everyday challenge. Many women are forced to use unsafe alternatives or skip work or school, which can have long-term consequences for their health and education.
Our research has shown that girls who miss school due to a lack of menstrual products are 20% less likely to graduate. Together, we can change this. Every woman deserves to feel clean and dignified during her period.
